Chapter 5

Once they had retreated far enough from the pack of Buliezu, Dangdang’s mother went to help her daughter wipe off the food residue on her face. but Dangdang blocked her and took a blue and red bicolored sea urchin shell out of her bag. It was filled with liquid medicine, and she pinched one open and pressed it to the wound on her mother’s forehead. Fanli immediately grabbed a nearby cotton swab to help spread the medicine.

“You two children understand my meaning now?” Dangdang’s mother sighed.

“I understand.” Fanli replied. But she didn’t really understand. She only felt that the laws of this world were so ridiculous that she couldn’t adapt to it in such a short period of time.

“Are we all going to be living with these sons of bitches from now on? It’s so unfair, isn’t it?”

Dangdang’s mother raised her head and looked at the glistening waves of this crystalline blue world: “Unfair? There’s no good or evil in this world, no fair or unfair, only strong or weak.”

“Things that don’t exist can be created.”

Hearing this, Dangdang’s mother was dazed for a bit. She replied, astonished, “what nonsense are you saying? What did I tell you before…”

“Actually mom, I think Fanli’s right!” Dangdang sent Fanli a charming little wink. “Fanli, I still remember the things you told me during our first meet. That those bastards who squandered sea urchins’ natural analgesic to make meaningless mating products would be better off just opening up a sashimi restaurant instead. That’s when I knew you were a girl with ideas.”

“Haha, you sure have an excellent memory.” Fanli confesses she didn’t have a clue what Dangdang was talking about.

“Of course, I also remember you saying to me that after prohibition on exiting the seas is lifted, you will go ashore to the riverbank to search for Tetrahydrocannabinol and combine it with the sea urchin’s naturally producing analgesic to form a highly effective and numbing painkiller. You’ll produce it at a low enough cost so that all marine people can afford it. At that time, I thought….ah, sorry, mama, does it hurt?” Glancing at her mother’s knitted brows, she whispered to Fanli, “I thought there would finally be a day when one of the greatest potion masters would be born from a lower-rung marine race.”

The more Dangdang spoke, the bigger Fanli’s headache grew. Her grades were good, and she was a quick learner herself, but this was a whole new world, and she had no good knowledge base about anything in this new world. Before she finds a way back to her body, it appears she’d have to cram a lot of study material…

After tending to the wounds, Dang Dang hurriedly said goodbye to her mother, and dragged Fanli with her off in a rush into the school.

And it was at this moment where in front of the many students, a boy swam over to them. He had a backpack slung over his shoulder, carried an extracurricular textbook in hand, and had seaweed bracelet strewn on his wrist.

He had dark hair, green eyes, and a clean smile, “I wanted to applaud you guys for what you did before. Great job.”

Then without waiting for Fanli’s response, he waved his hand and swam away, not even looking back once.

Staring at his retreating back, Dangdang opened her mouth but nothing came out. She was flabbergasted and only after a long time did she say: “Suppose I were to have a suitor like him, then even if he’s unmarried and childless, I’ll still consider him….”

“Why do I feel there’s a problem with your ‘suppose…’and ‘even if’?”

The puzzled expression on Fanli’s face was similar to one that an old grandpa staring in confusion at his new mobile phone would make, which caused Dangdang to burst into laughter.

“Hahahah, you showed more expressions today than all the previous days I’ve known you combined! I’ve always thought you only had a poker face! This is great, I like the you now way more!”

The school campus had short neatly trimmed seagrass lawns and wide expansive administrative buildings. Normal buildings were between three to seven stories high. Their exteriors were build from gold bricks and hung silvery lanterns lit by some unknown source. In addition, algae were suspended on the gable walls for decorative purposes.

The most sumptuous of these buildings resembled an ancient castle, with bronze statues of famous people next to it; the dark golden chapel had stained glass windows, and right above it, a swirling light seemingly from heaven fell, illuminating the ripples in the sea and adding a touch of nobility to the building..

While they were rushing, there were many unique looking students passing by, as well as many members of clubs and associations handing out pamphlets and shouting:

“You two beauties, are you interested in joining the Land Science Club? Join us as we study the mysterious and savage human world … “

“Join the Loya University Student Union! We have a strong business partner backing us up! The annual Arcane Competitions are also sponsored by us!

There were also the “Ocean Mountain Geology club,” the “Racing Club,” “Wrestling Club,” “Venom Club,” and many more. Introduction cards and conch badges were placed on the table for interested students to pick up when passing by.

Finally they arrived at the Freshman Registration. The queue lined from the Academy to the stairs outside the building. It was longer than the waiting queue for airport taxis during peak tourist seasons.

A Haiyangzu girl who was following them for a long time finally gathered the courage to show herself then. She came out timidly, pointed to a certain place and said softly, “just now.. you two were really impressive. ” She was a lithe and petite girl with long light blonde hair. Her fins were rather long, drifting behind her like silk, looking like the wings of a swallow from the side.

“What’s so impressive about getting bullied by a group of Buliezu?” Dangdang unhappily wiped her greasy cheeks again.

On their way, through conversing with Dangdang, Fanli learned that during the barbarous days of old, the Buliezu hunted the Haiyangzu as a natural way of life. They were practically genetically influenced to view the Haiyangzu as natural prey. Therefore, even if laws have been established now to prohibit such behavior, they still treated the Haiyangzu with scorn, attaching racist and demeaning titles to them such as “fish bait”. Because of the huge difference in strength and status, 98.7% of the slaves caught in the black market are of Haiyangzu background.

“How can it be as simple as a group of Buliezu only..” the girl cautiously and solemnly employed a soundproof barrier around the three of them, but her voice was still quiet as a mosquito’s buzz, “I’m from the highschool affiliated with Loya University, and those three girls were known as the ‘Black Coral Goddess Gang’ back there….”

Dangdang interrupted her: “wait, you were from Loya’s subsidiary highschool?”

“En..”

“Wealthy person,” Dangdang gave her a thumbs up, “do continue.”

“The one who injured your mother with her nails is known as Princess Hum. Her mother is the chief general of Red Lunar Mare’s Hammerhead Shark Navigation system. Every transportation vessel we ride on has her family’s company logo on it. So she’s super first-rate and is also one of Loya Subsidiary’s biggest donors.”

Afterwards, the swallow-winged-tailed girl pointed to an Orca girl a few distances away.

At this moment, Princess Hum grabbed a skinny boy by the collar, dragged him in front of her, and roughly tongue-kissed him.

Witnessing this scene, Fanli’s face changed colors. The blonde girl gave a hollow laugh and explained: “that’s her boyfriend. They met today.”

Fanli was startled: “They only met today…and already are in that kind of relationship? Kissing…already?”

By now they have arrived at the registration office. Dangdang took out her ID card, the admission notice, and the completed registration form. After hearing Fanli’s words, she who was originally examining her form, raised her head in surprise: “Fanli, do you have some misconception about Orcas? They are the most degenerate race in the entire ocean because they sleep with everything. Any. Thing. Any. Creature! If only my mother wasn’t here today, I really wouldn’t mind getting dirty and duking it out with them!”

The other girl nodded: “It’s like this, although she has a boyfriend, but those guys you saw before, surrounding her, none of them are let off…She takes them all simultaneously…”

“None let off? Simultaneously?” Fanli tried to guess her meaning, “it can’t be what I’m thinking of, right?”

“In any case, in my previous school, whenever there will be some meeting or party, Princess Hum will always disappear for a period of time. There was a time she re-appeared in human legs…We found her in a small room, drunk, resting against the wall, with the floor covered with sticky white fluid.”

“…..”A wave of sour acid threatened to bubble up. Fanli clasped her stomach.

“The Orca can store all the male seeds in the sperm tank in the body, and one day, depending on their mood, they will pick one of their favorites to fertilize their egg–do you get my meaning?”

Turns out it was like this, the female Orca can decide when to conceive and with whom’s sperm to conceive. Naturally, the stronger the genetic variety they collect, the more advantageous it is for them. It is no wonder that they look down on girls who want to get married. This is probably feminism in its most extreme form.

Although analyzed from a biological point of view, their behavior patterns are reasonable, but still knowing so many details, Fanli felt her world view has been shattered. At the same time, Xinghai’s face flashed in her mind. She hesitated for a while before asking, “Is this the kind of relationship all the boys have with her?”

“Yes.” The blonde girl replied resolutely.

Fanli thought about it for a while. Then she glanced at Dangdang: “then….what about Xinghai? Is he the same as them?”

“I never felt he had the same murderous aura as the other Buliezu tribes. However, if I remember correctly, Xinghai does not appear to be a purebred shark? His pupils have always been round, and his pupils are also blue—” At this point, Dangdang tilted her head in uncertainty, “the sharks have only golden pupils, right?

Fanli was momentarily dazed. If she replied either “yes,” or “no,” and it turns out either of them was wrong, what will she do? At the end, she only smacked Dangdang’s hand and said: “you don’t even know this? Do read more books.”

“Ah, it’s not like I’m a bookworm like you! You’re asking for too much!”

“No, sharks’ pupils are not only golden in color.” The blonde girl replied. “They lack blue-green pigments and red-purple pigments, but yellow-brown pupils are possible. Then this boy named Xinghai is probably a crossbreed. It’s just that his Haiyangzu characteristics don’t show too much.”

“Cross…crossbreed!!” Dangdang clasped her face, “how can you use this word!!”

“What’s wrong with it…..”

“No but, isn’t crossbreed a contemptuous term?”

“What are you talking about? Many crossbreeds love calling us fish bait, you know. This can’t be helped, I dislike crossbreds even more than purebreds. They always rely on their remnants of Buliezu genes to look down on us Haiyangzu. But towards the Buliezu, they are nothing but licking dogs. For Xinghai, it’s important for him to copulate with female Orcas to improve the genes of his offspring, right? This is how this world works.”

“Oh…” Fanli was a bit disappointed hearing this.

Dangdang tilted her head: “but, how come those pure breeds appear to be slightly afraid of him?”

“I don’t know this. It’s the first time I’ve seen such a situation. But I don’t think Lina will be afraid of him — oh yes, Lina is the red-haired Orca, the queen of the ‘Black Coral Goddess Gang’.”

She didn’t realize that when she said these words, the soundproofing had already lost effect. The girl in front of them turned around, and even the bubbles she spat out were trembling: “Really don’t mess with Lina, don’t test her authority, otherwise your whole college career will be a nightmare. I’m from Loya Art High School, and everyone knows Lina’s name.”

The students in their back row chimed in.

“In Xingchenhai (星辰海: Star Sea), Lina’s family is only below the Magistrate in power! Her mother had dined with the Magistrate multiple times, with no more than 10 people present!”

“I’m from Loya’s subsidiary High school. I have bought every copy of her outfits!”

“Lina holds 2.15% stake in Bodhi Sea’s biggest beauty product company.”

“If I can enter Lina’s family, I’m willing to be a gentle and virtuous male concubine all my life.”

    ……

“Because of Lina, for a total of seventeen years, I’ve never been able to sit at lunch during my time at Loya Subsidiary…” this came from the mouth of the blonde haired girl, saying this, she renewed the soundproof barrier and sealed the three of them back inside. “Just because I chatted to her ex-boyfriend for 2 hours.”

“Her ex-boyfriend?”

“En. They broke up after half a year of dating. At that time, they were already separated, and neither was she in love with the boy, but for her, even if its’ something she doesn’t want anymore, I’m afraid other people are still not allowed to take them.” Saying up to here, she blinked and continued, “that’s right, it’s the boy who spoke to you two before.”

Dangdang pointed at her wrist, “the one with a seagrass bracelet here?”

“Yes.”

Fanli feels that this environment is really a test of people’s desire to survive. And this test really makes her bladder full. She looked around and whispered to Dangdang, “I want to go to the bathroom.”

“Bathroom? You need to go number 2?”

“No. Number 1.”

Seeing Dangdang’s strange expression, Fanli said carefully: “…what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, I just didn’t expect you to have such a noble habit.”

“Huh? You don’t usually use the bathroom?”

“In theory, for number 1, it’s indeed unnecessary to use the bathroom.”

“….so it’s fine to publicly urinate everywhere?”

“En. Afterall, we are not some high-tier marine race.”

Although she had faintly guessed the truth in her heart, Fanli still refused to accept it: “If we don’t go to the bathroom, don’t tell me we are supposed to suck up all excrements back into our bodies?”

“Fanli, don’t be like this, it’s deep in the sea, it’s very clean.” Dangdang adjusted the starfish on her hair, shook her butt, and revealed a bright smile, “it’s best to be casual.”

But a few seconds later, the water surrounding Fanli became warmer. She shut her gills tightly, and screamed: “Oh my godddddddddddddddd, what are you doing?!!”

Then she swam a hundred meters away from Dangdang in shock.

She’s about to faint! No longer will she breathe in water. It is impossible to adjust to life in the ocean! She wants to return to land! !

The students lining in the queue all looked at her:

“What happened to that girl? Did she meet a pervert?”

“Wow, this is the first time that I have seen a Haiyangzu whose speed is comparable to a Buliezu. Classmate, do you want to join our swimming club?”
